Uniform is provided for Nursing Sisters so that they
have only to consider their om private clothes.
Since summer frocks are worn from April to November
a good supply of these is necessary. They should all be of washable material, such as voile, gingham, etc. Chinese tailors are very clever at copying a model, so many people bring out dress lengths to be made up here. Of Silk materials, crepe-deschine wears well: taffetas and glace cilks are useless, as they split almost at once.
For the colder monthe one costume is enough, Teachers often wear a tweed skirt and a woollen jersey while in school. Silk jumpers are most useful. A thick coat is needed, also a light wrap. A good mackintosh is essential: it should be light-weight. (Elvery, of Conduit St., makes one specially for the tropics) Furs are useful.
Most people play tennis and golf: there is a good deal of dancing, both afternoon and evening. A net or lace evening frock is useful: most evening trocks are made of crepe-depchine, net, or satin.
▲ good supply of shoes should be brought, as these are very expensive. One pair of heavy shoes is all one needs as a rule. Stockings and underclothes are good and inexpensive here.
It is not necessary to bring a topee.
Fibre or some similar material is best for luggage or
a dressing case. Nothing in the way of leather should be
brought.
